Science Horizons Internship Program 2019-21

You may qualify for up to $15,000 in wage funding for junior STEM positions if you work in the environmental sector
What Types of Roles are Eligible for Funding?
To be eligible the role must fall within Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, be full-time, permanent and have a positive environmental impact.
Science
Research assistant to collect historical data, run models, and assess climate change impacts
Environmental coordinator determining and implementing best management practices for sustainable farming
Lab technician analyzing water samples from sites to determine the contamination levels.
Technology
Software designer to create smart grid technologies.
GIS analyst focused on animal movements in Northern Canada.
Engineering
Design engineer to develop environmental monitoring equipment for greenhouse gases.
Energy Engineer to identify and quantify the opportunity for projects involving Demand Response, efficiency, renewable technologies, management and operating improvements to major energy-using equipment.
Mathematics
Home Energy Modeller to calculate thermal performance of building with a goal of recommending and implementing energy-efficient options.
Program Candidates
Currently unemployed or underemployed
Able to work in a full-time, permanent position within 30 days from application
Intend to lead an environmental career in STEM or natural resources
Have not previously participated in a federal youth employment program
Graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution with a 2 year diploma or 4 year degree
Not a family member of the employer organization’s senior leaders
30 years of age or younger, Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status
Not currently a paid employee at the employer organization
Host Employers
Full-time, permanent position for aged 30 or under candidate
Environmentally-related position in STEM
Hiring a new employee – not an existing full-time employee
Must be Canadian owned, Canadian subsidiary, Municipal or Provincial Government Department
Candidate must have graduated from post-secondary institute and is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or has refugee status
How It Works
Take the eligibility Quiz and complete the host application to get approved by our employment programs team.
Find a Candidate for the approved position and have them apply.
Employer hosts and approved Candidate become linked and contracts are issued.
Send back contracts to our team and start the position!
Complete reports, webinars and send pay stubs to receive your wage funding.
Placements typically last 8-12 months and are intended to lead to permanent employment.
